Epoxy Flooring Insights

FAQs

How does substrate preparation impact the "glue line" of resin floors?

The strength of a resin floor is only as good as its bond. High Performance Systems emphasizes that proper mechanical preparation (like shot blasting or grinding) is required to open the concrete’s pores. This allows their thermal-cured resins to penetrate deep into the substrate, creating a much tighter and more durable “glue line” than standard DIY or moisture-cure products.

Yes. For environments with constant water exposure and frequent wash-downs, urethane concrete is typically recommended over standard epoxy. It is non-porous and can be installed with integrated coving (a seamless transition from floor to wall), which eliminates 90-degree corners where water and bacteria usually collect.

Thermal shock occurs when a floor is subjected to rapid, extreme temperature changes (e.g., cleaning a cold storage floor with 180°F water). Standard epoxy can become brittle and delaminate under these conditions. High-performance polyurethane systems are engineered to expand and contract at a rate similar to the underlying concrete, preventing cracks and failure.

Yes. For facilities handling sensitive electronics, High Performance Systems provides ESD (Electrostatic Dissipative) flooring. These systems incorporate conductive elements that safely bleed off static electricity from workers and equipment into the ground, preventing “zaps” that can destroy expensive microchips or ignite flammable vapors.

While traditional epoxies may require 7 days to fully cure, High Performance Systems offers fast-track solutions designed to minimize downtime. Some polyaspartic or urethane systems can allow for light foot traffic in as little as 4–6 hours and heavy vehicular traffic (like forklifts) within 24 hours of the final coat.
