What is the difference between floor paint and an epoxy coating?

While the terms are often used interchangeably, they are technically very different. Floor paint is typically a single-component, latex, or oil-based product that sits on top of the concrete. An epoxy coating is a two-component resin system that chemically bonds to the substrate. Coatings are significantly thicker, more durable, and better suited for the rigors of industrial use.

Standard floor paint often fails due to a phenomenon called “hot tire pickup.” As tires cool, they contract and “grab” the thin film of paint, pulling it off the concrete.
